Blatantly Obvious.
The first in a series of posts presenting the, well, blatantly obvious. On an almost daily basis, I encounter things which, to me, are no-brainers, but many people struggle to or simply cannot understand. Here, I shall explain them: the meanings of song lyrics, how things work, simple how-to’s, and more.
We start with some song lyrics.
Written by Steven Tyler (vocals) and Joe Perry (lead guitar), Walk This Way was originally released in 1975 on the third Aerosmith album, Toys in the Attic. Remade in 1986 with Run DMC, the song won both groups a Soul Train Music Award for Best Rap - Single in 1987. It seems after all those years, many people still do not know the meaning of the lyrics. This song is about sex.
I’m not going to break it down line by line, but I will point out the most obvious parts.
- “You ain’t seen nothin’ till you’re down on a muffin
Then you’re sure to be a-changin’ your ways”
- muffin is a slang term for female genitalia. down on a muffin would be cunnilingus. - “I met a cheerleader, was a real young bleeder
Oh, the times I could reminisce
‘Cause the best things of lovin’ with her sister and her cousin
Only started with a little kiss
Like this!”
- it starts with a kiss. - “Seesaw swingin’ with the boys in the school
And your feet flyin’ up in the air
Singin’ “Hey diddle diddle”
With your kitty in the middle of the swing
Like you didn’t care”
- feet flyin’ up in the air and the kitty in the middle… do I really have to explain those? - “So I took a big chance at the high school dance
With a missy who was ready to play
Wasn’t me she was foolin’
‘Cause she knew what she was doin’
And I knowed love was here to stay
When she told me to Walk this way, talk this way”
- ready to play, and walking isn’t necessarily walking. - “Schoolgirl sweetie with a classy kinda sassy
Little skirt’s climbin’ way up the knee”
- again, do I really have to explain this one? - “I was a high school loser, never made it with a lady
Till the boys told me somethin’ I missed
Then my next door neighbor with a daughter had a favor
So I gave her just a little kiss
Like this!”
- a kiss is more than a kiss…
